Throughout the summer, this pulsating beat can be heard in large Kurdish cities, even from several blocks away, calling everyone to the wedding party. While walking around Batman, we passed this large wedding and immediately after being spotted we were invited for music and tea. As the music started, the men and women joined hands in a circle of 100 or more and, with intense perfected steps, they followed one another, shaking their shoulders, quickening the pace, and finally giving a loud high-shrilled cry. Shoulder to shoulder, we stepped with them in the heat of the afternoon to the beating of the drum.
